Hard Times

Since the weekend, the winter weather, which was at least picturesque in my last my last piece, has continued to tighten it's grip on Redesdale. The accumulation now is certainly as deep as last winter and clearing it has meant a lot of hard work for me and my new plastic snow shovel. The car-wide track down to the road, created on Saturday when I dug out the six inches of snow lying on my drive, has filled and been cleared twice again; on Monday the snow was twelve inches deep and there was another six inches yesterday. And if I felt up to the task this morning, five inches more has fallen overnight. It's still snowing heavily as I write so I've voted for a lazy day. Sadly, the garden birds will not be able to relax.

From where I'm sitting there is plenty more heading your direction. We are clearing a mile of track but have got a tractor with a bucket on the front. Good luck and keep warm.

Hi Emma, keep warm. Friends in the upper coquet Valley are struggling too, even the 4x4 got stuck at one point. it's picturesque for a while but eventually just hard work. Just had text from parents in Tyneside (11am 1st Dec) a real blizzard has come in and shows no sign of going. Take care. Andrew

Hello Roy, Adrian and Andrew, and thanks for your comments and concern.
The weather does appear to have moved south overnight, but we are threatened with a lot of snow again today.
I wish I had a tractor with a bucket on the front, Adrian.
My friends in Tyneside and Durham tell me they have blizzards too this morning, Andrew.
I've plenty of heating oil, a full freezer and well-stocked cupboards and a generator (in case we get a power cut) so I should survive.

Hi Emma, we live to your SW near Haltwhistle, I'm onboard ship at present up the west coast of Scotland, just off the phone to my wife, she's now snowed in, no buses, cannot get the car out, no post. She's more concerned at being unable to get to the bird table so is feeding on an old tray at the back door.

Keep warm lets hope there now power cuts with the weight of snow and ice on the cables.

Looks like you are going to get a rough spell Emma. Batten down the hatches...

It's bad enough here Emma but you look as though you have had 2 to 3 times as much snow. Lovely photo of the Blue Tit.
